Best Of The City
Good luck finding a pair of cutting shears at the Robert James Color Studio. The Vidal Sassoon–trained hair guru specializes in doing one thing here (and, might we say, impeccably well): creating the loveliest of “pretty girl” hues for the most discriminating of hair-color enthusiasts. At his new, postage-stamp-sized hideaway in the TenderNob, you’ll find the ebullient James (who has a decade of experience in the hair biz) giving good old-fashioned one-on-one attention to his clients, transforming even the dullest of manes...

Hair Artisans Getting The Nod From Public
Hairstyles come and go - feathered bangs, bobs, Jennifer Aniston's long layers - but the bigger trend now is just how many specialists a coiffure-conscious consumer will employ to get the look.
Instead of heading to a full-service spa salon, where everything from massages to haircuts to espresso can be had, more and more clients are heading to boutique-like salons, where only a select few services are offered. In the chairs of these hair artisans, you may be able to get your locks dyed or blown out, but ask for a service outside their expertise and you get a gentle explanation and a referral...

Higher Greening
Theres a lot of buzz in Bay Area circles about "sustainable" this and "natural" that, but at colorist Robert Clayborn's cozy new studio, Robert James Color, more than the salon's walls are green. Clayborn, who's given Gwen Stefani her signature platinum blonde locks, built a 100% recycled divider wall and selected vintage Eames chairs for guests to sit in. Clayborn was also the first in San Francisco to use all-natural extensions, which he applies with an organic tree resin bond. "Natural hair means it's being reused, and there are no harsh chemicals-which is better for the hair too," he explains.

Gone are the days of post-peroxide tears. Being a baby about your color is now unheard of, thanks to the Robert James Salon, San Fran's first studio devoted solely to color and extensions.
Robert is the guy with the golden touch to take you from the blah browns to goldie locks. But he'll make sure to keep your feelings in check at the same time. How can you not lust after a spot that's as good to your heart as it is to your hair? And Robert James is one of the only colorists in the world who specializes in lengthening your locks with all-natural extensions for that "I caused a paparazzi scene" thickness. You're all about spatial energy, hippy chic. Sit back against nearly 600 square feet of soft green colored walls. Vintage eames accents and tropical plants will surely have you feeling more than energetic.
Go to Robert for hair that's as bright as crayola sunshine yellow. He knows how to color and he stays in the lines.

COLOR ME RAD
Robert James Color Salon Opens:
You may not admire their rehabs or boy toys (who the hell is Cisco Adler?), but you have to give it to starlets for ability to change hair length and color. Everyday.
Get your wannabe chameleon self over to Robert James Color. You won’t find scissors at the intimate, new Nob Hill studio, just colorist Robert Clayborn (who’s painted the likes of Gwen Stefani and Carmen Electra) focusing solely on color and all-natural extensions.
Perk up with highlights, semipermanent hues, or all-over gloss. If you’re tired of that lame Katie Holmes bob (so much for post-breakup hairapy), book a consultation for extensions. Clayborn uses super-glossy human hair to create volume, length, and color, and attaches the extensions with an organic resin bond. That means no damage to the hair — and less to the environment.
And that’s good karma, chameleon.
